This was one of the better films I’ve seen all year, my most prized rental find all month, and one of the only scary movies I could actually sit through.  Firstly, I’m going to say it was a very refreshing take on the vampire genre.  By no means was this film your run of the mill bloodsucker montage.  Rather this was fashioned as a coming of age story surrounding a boy named Oskar at the tender age of 12 who finds himself bullied at school.  Oskar desires nothing more than revenge on this classmate terrorists and that he finds himself a friend to share and be himself with.  This wish seems to be fulfilled as a young girl named Eli moves into his neighbourhood.  The girl who keeps mostly to herself visits Oskar in the courtyard of their apartment complex and befriends him.  She offers him friendship and eventually Oskar accepts.  Soon after Eli moves into the neighbourhood a series of strange sightings and murders occur. Eventually Oskar learns the truth about his new (old) friend and instead of running away he decides that his feelings for Eli are more important than his fear of her.  By the end of the film Eli proves her love and friendship to Oskar and he proves his devotion to her.   An unlikely puppy love romance that will have your heart warmed by the end; despite the blood and gore it is quite innocent and beautiful.  Let The Right One In promises to challenge your reservations about love, friendship, and the true meanings of light and dark.  A definite must see.
